Mary from Sacramento: Why should I hire a CASp?
CCJF Answer: Hiring a CASp before a lawsuit is filed will help businesses identify accessibility barriers and assist businesses in becoming compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act and California’s Unruh Act. A CASp report may afford small businesses with certain legal protections, including a reduction in money paid to plaintiffs (and their attorneys). Without a CASp report, compliance is hard to achieve which leaves businesses open to lawsuits.
The Department of General Services notes the program “is designed to meet the public's need for experienced, trained, and tested individuals who can inspect buildings and sites for compliance with applicable state and federal construction-related accessibility standards.”
Shelley from Fresno: What can I do to make my website more accessible?
CCJF Answer: Great question! Rachelle Golden, Esq., has some advice on that. Click here to read her paper on website compatibility
Will from San Jose: Will you come give a presentation?
CCJF Answer: Absolutely! Please see our ADA page and send us an inquiry. We ask that requesting organizations provide the venue, market the workshop and manage the RSVPs. We’ll provide the workshop free of charge. It’s very helpful to you if you partner with your local Legislator and chambers of commerce.
